THE SHORT ANSWER
A new job changes more than who pays your salary. Insurance connected to your employment or union membership may also be affected. But not everything necessarily ends on your last working day, and a new job does not automatically provide the same cover as your old one.
Review each policy with two questions: what applies until the change, and what do the documents show for the period afterwards? Keep workplace agreements, union insurance and your own private policies separate. [1][2]
Keep these points in mind
- Compare the end and start dates for each type of cover.
- Post-employment cover and continuation insurance are different things.
- Missing confirmation means Unverified, not definitely missing cover.
STEP BY STEP
How to check your cover
Collect the statements before the change
Gather insurance statements, terms and any optional cover you have chosen. Ask HR to identify the collective agreement and policies that cover you. Ask your union to distinguish what is included in membership from policies you pay for separately.
Note the insurer, the insured person and whom to contact. Keep documents even when an agreement ends; an old statement may be needed for an earlier period.
[1]Ask for dates and rules on continuing cover
Ask what happens to each part after your last day of employment or the end of membership. Request a written answer with a reference to the terms. Is there post-employment cover, known as efterskydd? Could continuation insurance be available? What requirements and application deadlines apply?
Also ask about a partner or child covered through your membership. Do not assume their cover continues because their name appears in an older document.
[1][2]Check the new job or union
Ask your new employer for current insurance statements and the start date for each type of cover. Compare the content, not just the abbreviations. When changing unions, ask how the income insurance qualifying period is affected and which certificate the new union needs.
Unionen, for example, explains that earlier insurance periods may count when transferring from another union without a break in cover. That is a specific rule to check, not a promise that applies to every change.
[3]Check your own status if you start a business
An agreement covering a company's employees does not necessarily give its owner the same protection. Ask the administrator to confirm how you are classified and which parts apply to you. A company registration number or job title is not an insurance statement.
Afa explains, for example, that TFA work injury cover can follow from an insurance agreement or basic agreement, while other parts for the business owner need to be arranged separately. Becoming self-employed does not itself activate the package.
[4][5]
What can continue after you leave?
Efterskydd is cover that may apply for a period after employment under specific rules. Afa has different rules for sickness, life and work injury insurance, among others. It is not one common extension period for every policy.
Continuation insurance is a separate question: the possibility of remaining insured when group membership ends. Eligibility is conditional and may require action within a deadline. Ask the insurer to explain the options and final dates for your particular agreement.
[2][1]Membership and policies can change in different ways
Some policies may continue at a different price or with different options for additional cover. Ask what leaving means for your particular agreements and which requirements apply for continuing cover. You therefore need confirmation for each agreement, rather than simply stopping or continuing a payment.
Your union and a-kassa, or unemployment insurance fund, have separate memberships. Check each and ask the income insurer how a change affects the conditions. A new membership card does not, by itself, establish entitlement to payment.

Add the new insurance documents and review your employment and union membership answers under About you. Documents from work or your union may need to be added separately. Forsio does not change your agreements or memberships.
Read the relevant terms when reviewing a finding. If the new statement is missing, the next step is to obtain it. Unverified should not be read as a confirmed loss of cover.
Fictional example
New job. One statement is missing.
Someone changes employer and receives a new benefits list, but not the insurance terms.
- Previous employer's insurance
- End dates need confirming
- New employer's life cover
- Unverified
- Next check
- Ask HR for statements and terms
The list names a benefit, but is not enough to compare the periods and scope of cover.
