THE SHORT ANSWER
We read the terms in force at up to eight Swedish insurers in November 2026 and compared them area by area: travel cover, liability and legal expenses, accidental damage, bicycles, cover for tenant-owned apartments, cars, dogs, cats and children. Each comparison is a table by insurer in its own guide.
This page sums up the patterns: where insurers are the same, where they differ most, and what you therefore need to read in your own policy document. [1][2]
Keep these points in mind
- Some cover is the same at every insurer we read, such as liability cover of 5 million kronor.
- The biggest differences are in accidental damage cover, bicycle theft, legal expenses amounts and age limits in pet insurance.
- Your policy document shows which level and which edition of the terms apply to you.
STEP BY STEP
How to check your cover
Find your policy document
The policy document shows the insurer, the level and the edition of the terms that apply to you. Then compare it with your insurer's row in the right table.
Choose the comparison for your question
Each guide has a table by insurer on one topic, such as bicycle theft or dog insurance. The table shows only the points that differ, so also read the guide's steps.
Check the level and add-ons
Many differences depend on the level. The same insurer can include accidental damage cover at a higher level but not at the lowest. Check which level and add-ons your policy document lists.
Read the date
Terms change. The tables show terms in force on 1 or 2 November 2026. If your policy document names another edition, that edition applies to you.
Where insurers are the same
Some cover looks the same at every insurer we read. There it is usually enough to check that the cover is part of your level.
- Liability cover in home insurance is 5 000 000 kr at all eight insurers. The table by insurer shows where the amount for property damage applies per policy year.
- Partial car insurance includes the same parts at all seven insurers: fire, theft, glass, rescue, legal expenses and mechanical breakdown. The car insurance table shows the limits.
- Legal expenses cover requires at all eight insurers that you have had the policy for at least 2 years when the dispute arises.
- A hire car is not included in plain partial or comprehensive car insurance at any of the seven insurers, and all of them pay 75 percent of the hire cost after damage in Sweden.
- All seven insurers that sell child insurance describe a way to continue as an adult without a new health assessment, and the policy can be kept until around age 25. See the child insurance guide.
Where insurers differ most
Here the answer depends on the insurer, and often on the level too. The links lead to the tables with each insurer's details and sources.
- Accidental damage cover is always included at three of eight insurers, included from the middle level or higher at four, and an add-on at one. The maximum is 25 000 to 200 000 kr. See what home insurance includes.
- For bicycle theft, the limit is 20 000 to 50 000 kr at six of eight insurers, and two have no bicycle limit of their own. Lock requirements and excesses differ too. See bicycle theft.
- Legal expenses cover in home insurance pays at most 300 000, 340 000 or 400 000 kr per dispute, depending on the insurer.
- Mechanical breakdown cover in car insurance applies until the car is 8 or 10 years old, with mileage limits between 120 000 and 150 000 km, and legal expenses cover pays 200 000 to 400 000 kr per dispute.
- In dog insurance, the waiting period for illness is 14, 15 or 20 days, and life cover ends at age 8 to 12, usually depending on breed. See dog insurance.
- In cat insurance, life cover ends at age 11, 12 or 13. See cat insurance.
- Six of seven insurers sell child insurance only before age 18, and continuing as an adult can be automatic, an offer or an application with a deadline.
- Cover for tenant-owned apartments is always included at one insurer and an add-on at seven, and sudden damage in the apartment is usually covered up to 200 000 kr. See the guide to this add-on.
- Travel cover in home insurance lasts 45 days per trip at seven of eight insurers and 60 days at one. See travel cover days.
Amounts that are not in the terms
Several amounts are not in the terms. Excesses are often left to the policy document, and some amounts appear only in the pre-purchase information or on the insurer's website.
In our review we also found details where an insurer's website and terms do not say the same thing, and one case where Konsumenternas' comparison gives a different amount from the insurer's terms. That is why each table states which edition of the terms each detail comes from.
How we made the comparisons
We downloaded each insurer's current terms, pre-purchase information and product sheets from its own website on 1 and 2 November 2026. We read the relevant passages in full and checked them against Konsumenternas' comparisons where these exist. Each table states the edition and source for every insurer. Forsio is independent and has no commercial arrangement with any insurer.
The tables show what the terms say on a few points. They do not show prices, service or how insurers handle claims. Forsio is not an insurance intermediary and does not provide insurance advice.

Keep your policy documents in My Forsio. You then have the insurer, level and terms in one place, and each detail shows the passage it came from. If the terms are missing from the documents, the detail shows as Not verified, not as confirmed absent.
Fictional example
One home policy, two levels.
Sara compares her home insurance with the table for accidental damage cover. Her policy document shows the insurer and the level.
- Insurer and level
- In the policy document
- Accidental damage at her level
- Not includedPotential gapIncluded at the insurer's higher level.
- Edition of the terms
- Same as in the table
The table shows that the insurer offers accidental damage cover, but not at Sara's level. She now knows which part to ask the insurer about.
Common questions
Which insurers have you compared?
Each table shows which insurers it includes, seven or eight depending on the type of insurance. Insurers that do not sell a particular product are not in that table.
Does the comparison tell me which insurer to choose?
No. The tables show what the terms say on a few points, not price, service or how insurers handle claims. Forsio is not an insurance intermediary and does not provide insurance advice.
How current are the comparisons?
Each table shows the date the terms were read and the edition for each insurer. If an insurer has issued new terms after that date, the new terms apply.
