THE SHORT ANSWER
Konsumenternas, the Swedish consumers' insurance bureau, wrote in March 2026 that more and more people use AI services for quick answers about insurance and pensions, and that those answers can be wrong or misleading. The bureau stresses that consumers need help understanding what applies in their own case, and that clear communication and the option to speak to a person matter.
This guide answers that question from your side. It shows how to check an AI answer against your own policy schedule and terms, and where to get an answer that applies. [1]
Keep these points in mind
- An AI answer often describes insurance in general, not your policy.
- What applies is set out in your policy schedule and terms.
- When the answer matters: ask your insurer for a written answer.
STEP BY STEP
How to check your cover
Find out which policy the answer is about
An AI answer often describes how insurance usually works, not what your policy says. Terms differ between insurers and products, and one insurer can have several versions of its terms. Take out your policy schedule and note the insurer, the product, the version of the terms and any add-ons.
Then ask again with those details, or ask the service which assumptions the answer is based on. An answer about “most home insurance policies” shows what to look for. It is not an answer about your cover.
[1]Ask for the source and read the passage yourself
Ask the service to point to where the information appears: the section, the heading or the wording. Then find the same place in your own terms. If you cannot find the text, the information is not confirmed, however certain the wording sounds.
Check figures with particular care, such as amounts, the deductible, waiting periods and qualifying periods. They are set out in the policy schedule or the terms for your current insurance period.
Check the requirements for a payout
Konsumenternas writes that interest in insurance for unemployment and sick leave has grown, but that many people cannot use it because they do not meet the requirements. The bureau also describes the terms as often unclear. An answer saying that something is included tells you nothing about whether you meet the requirements.
Look for the sections on who is covered, how long you need to have been insured or a member, waiting periods and exclusions. For income insurance, the guide on income insurance and a-kassa goes through the requirements step by step.
[1][3]Get the answer from your insurer
When the answer matters, for example before a claim, a cancellation or a purchase, ask your insurer. Ask for the answer in writing, and ask to speak to a case handler if the answer is unclear. Note the date and who you spoke to.
Konsumenternas gives independent guidance on insurance and pensions, free of charge. If you are not satisfied with your insurer's decision on a claim, the dispute can in some cases be reviewed by the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN).

What Konsumenternas raised, and where to read more
In March 2026, Konsumenternas described the problems consumers ran into during 2025, based on the bureau's annual report. Here they are, with the guides that cover the same questions.
- AI answers that can be wrong or misleading. This guide shows how to check them.
- Difficulty reaching insurers and getting clear answers. See step four above and the guide When your insurer says no.
- Unclear terms in insurance for unemployment and sick leave. See the guide Income insurance and a-kassa.
- Sharp premium increases, especially for pet insurance but also for home and motor insurance. See the guide Price and renewal.
- The need to be able to speak to a person. See step four above.
What you share in an AI chat
A general AI service, such as ChatGPT, is not your insurer and does not normally have your policy in front of it. Read the service's terms on how conversations are stored and used before you paste in a policy schedule.
A personal identity number, a policy number and health information are rarely needed to understand a passage in the terms. Remove them before you share a document, or paste in only the passage you want to understand.
What the EU AI Act says
Under the EU AI Act, AI systems intended to interact directly with people must be designed so that you are told you are interacting with an AI system, unless that is obvious. The requirement applies from 2 August 2026. If you are unsure whether the replies in a chat come from a person, you can ask.
The Act also classes AI systems used for risk assessment and pricing for individuals in life and health insurance as high-risk, with their own requirements on matters such as risk management and human oversight. The Act does not change your policy: what applies is still set out in the policy schedule and terms.
[5]How Forsio uses AI
In My Forsio, a language model reads your own insurance documents. Each detail shows the passage it came from, or that a source is missing, so you can read the text yourself. Sensitive information, such as health information, is processed through model endpoints inside the EU when documents are analysed.
Claim check Beta helps you find sections of your terms that may be relevant to an incident. It does not calculate a payout and does not replace the insurer's assessment. Forsio is not an insurance intermediary and does not provide insurance advice.
Fictional example
A confident answer, different terms.
Sara asked an AI service whether her home insurance pays for the bike that was stolen outside the gym.
- The AI answer
- Bikes included, up to SEK 25,000No reference to Sara's terms.
- Sara's terms, theft
- Bike away from home: up to SEK 15,000
- Requirement in the terms
- The bike must have been locked
The answer pointed in the right direction but had the wrong amount and left out the lock requirement. Sara's own terms decide, and the insurer assesses the claim.
Common questions
Can I trust what ChatGPT says about my insurance?
Use the answer as a starting point for what to look for. Konsumenternas writes that AI answers about insurance and pensions can be wrong or misleading. What applies to you is set out in your policy schedule and terms, and if you make a claim, your insurer assesses it. [1]
Why does the AI answer differ from what my insurer says?
The AI answer often describes insurance in general, another insurer's terms or an older version of the terms. Your policy may also have add-ons or limits that a general answer does not know about. Ask your insurer for the answer in writing if you want to be able to refer back to it.
Does a wrong AI answer change what I am entitled to?
An answer from a general AI service does not change your policy. What applies between you and your insurer is set out in the policy schedule and terms. If your insurer's own chat gave you an answer, keep it and ask the insurer to confirm it in writing.
Does an insurer have to tell me I am chatting with an AI?
Under the EU AI Act, AI systems intended to interact directly with people must be designed so that you are told it is an AI system, unless that is obvious. The requirement applies from 2 August 2026. If you are unsure, you can ask, and ask to speak to a case handler. [5]
Where can I get help from a person?
Start with your insurer's customer service or claims team. Konsumenternas gives independent guidance on insurance and pensions free of charge, by phone and e-mail. A dispute about a claim can in some cases be reviewed by the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN). [2][4]
Does Forsio use AI?
Yes. In My Forsio, a language model reads your insurance documents, and each detail shows the passage it came from or that the source is missing. Forsio does not decide whether a claim is paid. Your insurer does.
