THE SHORT ANSWER
Put the new policy letter beside the previous one. Compare the same policy and periods of equal length. This shows the price change without confusing it with a different payment schedule.
Check the cover too. A higher or lower premium alone does not explain what has happened to your protection.
Keep these points in mind
- Compare annual prices with annual prices.
- Read changes to cover and excesses at the same time.
- The renewal date and payment date are different things.
STEP BY STEP
How to check your cover
Check that the letters belong together
Compare the policy number, insured item or property, and dates. A new letter may cover the next period of the same policy. Write down the old and new annual prices before calculating the difference.
If a bill covers only part of the year, use the stated annual premium or ask the insurer for comparable amounts.
Calculate the change in kronor
Subtract the previous annual price from the new one. Divide the difference by the previous annual price to calculate the percentage change. Without the previous price, you cannot calculate a meaningful percentage.
Check fees and discounts separately. A monthly payment and an annual price may not include exactly the same cost items.
Read what else has changed
Compare cover, limits and excesses. Check that details such as your address and your car’s annual mileage are still correct. Mileage, for example, is one of several factors that can affect a car premium.
Ask the insurer to explain your particular change if the statement does not tell you enough. Forsio can show the difference in the documents, but does not automatically know why the insurer set that price.
[2][1]Keep track of the right date
The main renewal date is often when a property or vehicle policy renews and can be switched. Paying monthly does not mean the agreement runs one month at a time. Check what applies to your policy.
If you are considering a switch, establish the start and end dates so you do not create a gap. Personal insurance may require a new health assessment.

Why can the price rise even without a claim?
Prices can change for several reasons. Konsumenternas distinguishes general increases, for example when claims costs rise, from individual surcharges. The fact that you have not made a claim does not therefore establish that the price must stay the same.
Your car's mileage, your address and the cover selected are examples of details insurers may use in pricing. If also lists age and claims history for car insurance. These are possible factors, not an explanation of the increase in your own letter.
[3][4]Check whether a discount has ended
Look for a time-limited discount in the previous statement. If, for example, distinguishes a first-year welcome discount from its annual customer discount. Other insurers may use different arrangements. A smaller discount can result in a higher final price even when the cover looks unchanged.
Ask for the standard premium, discount and any fees separately. A changed total does not show how each part has changed. Keep the insurer's explanation with the new statement so that you can compare the same details next time.
[5]Ask for an explanation you can check
Ask whether the increase concerns updated details, a discount, changed cover or the insurer's pricing. Also ask whether any part is an individual surcharge. Give both annual prices and periods so the insurer knows exactly which difference you want to understand.
A price comparison can show that the amount has risen. It cannot by itself establish whether a particular surcharge is correct or which other agreement suits you. Read the reply alongside your policy letter and ask for clarification if the parts do not add up.
[3]See the change in My Forsio
My Forsio shows renewal dates and can compare previous and new premiums when matching documents are available. A price increase is shown in both kronor and percent when both amounts are comparable.
You need to have added the current statement. An old price is not a forecast for the next period. The overview helps you ask the insurer questions; Forsio does not negotiate the price or switch policies for you.
Fictional calculation
30 kr more per month is 360 kr per year
The same home policy, two full annual periods. No payment fees in this example.
- Previous annual price
- 3 060 kr
- New annual price
- 3 420 kr
- Difference
- +360 kr · 11.8%
The difference describes the price. Also read the renewal letter to understand whether the cover has changed.
Common questions
Can I cancel every month if I pay monthly?
The payment interval does not determine the contract term. Many property and vehicle policies run for a year. Check the renewal date and cancellation terms with the insurer. [1]
Does a lower price mean the same cover?
Not necessarily. Compare the scope, amounts, exclusions and excess. The price change in My Forsio compares documents; it is not a quality rating.
