When something happens

Something has happened. Which policies might be relevant?

Describe the event, find the relevant terms and gather your documents. How Claim check helps before you contact the insurer.

Go to the steps

THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with a factual account of the event and the policies in force at the time. An accident may involve more than one policy, but a match in the terms is not an approved claim.

Claim check Beta in My Forsio shows relevant sections and questions based on your documents. Reporting the claim and deciding its outcome remain with the insurer.

Keep these points in mind

  • Start with what happened, not the compensation you hope for.
  • Read the clause alongside any exclusions.
  • Claim check is not a claim submission.

STEP BY STEP

How to check your cover

  1. Describe the event in order

Write down the date, place and what happened. Separate what you saw from what you assume. If an item was damaged, describe the item and the damage. For an injury, medical records may be important.

You can start simply. Use your own words and add details if more information becomes available.

  2. Check which policies were in force then

Read the periods in the policy letters. If a policy has renewed since the event, you may need the earlier terms. Also check whether relevant cover is available through work or your union.

Claim check uses the available documents. If the relevant period or terms version is missing, check it with the insurer.

  3. Read the sections behind the answer

Open the references shown by Claim check. Look for the event the section describes, who the policy covers and the limitations it mentions.

Write down what is still unclear. A relevant section may still need to be read alongside a definition, exclusion or special condition.

  4. Report the claim to the insurer and keep its response

Contact the insurer according to its claims instructions. Tell it if you are claiming under several policies. Keep the confirmation of your claim and the documents the insurer requests.

Do not delay reporting a claim while waiting for a complete answer from Forsio. Deadlines and the insurer’s instructions still apply when you use Claim check.

HOW A CLAIM WORKS
  1. Something happens
  2. Limit the damageAs far as you can
  3. Report it to the insurerPolice report for theft
  4. The insurer assesses and decidesAsk for the decision in writing
  5. A review, or ARNIf you disagree
Keep records along the way: photos, receipts and contacts. Your terms may set deadlines.

Two policies may serve different purposes

After an accident, one policy may cover certain costs and another fixed sums for a permanent injury. The same cost is not reimbursed more than once. Any fixed sums that may be paid depend on each policy.

Ask for a written decision with references to the terms if you need to understand the insurer’s assessment. If you disagree, you can request a review; check the insurer’s deadline.

Common questions

Does Forsio report the claim for me?

No. Claim check helps you read relevant terms. You report the claim through the insurer’s usual channel.

Can Claim check tell me for certain that I will receive compensation?

No. The answer may be incomplete if information or terms are missing. The insurer always investigates and decides the claim.
